Sparky™ is a game for 3 – 12 year olds, developed and available through Lung Games International Inc. that leverages human factor engineering, behavioural science and persuasive game co-design with preschool children to teach the maneuvers required for spirometry through breathing-powered interactive gaming™.

As children progress through the game, the spirometer is used as the game controller and they learn the maneuvers while tracking each metric in a database, allowing remote monitoring.

Teaching children to do spirometry will provide healthcare professionals with a tool to help them objectively assess and diagnose respiratory disease in young children, including asthma and cystic fibrosis. In addition, parents/caregivers and healthcare professionals can now monitor children remotely.

If they have an Asthma Action Plan in place, developed with their primary care provider, they now have an objective tool they can use to know when to intervene with the plan.

The game increases access to care for children and especially for those in remote, rural areas who have limited access to Lung Function Labs.
