Playing SparkyTM

Using the Spirometer

  1. Sparky™ can only be played when players are connected to the Internet, through wi-fi or data. This is because the game must be linked to the Account in order to ensure movement of data to the dashboard as soon as the game is done.
  2. Players are prompted to Log in to Sparky™ with their Username and Password. The Username and Password are the ones you entered into the Account for that Registered User, and are different than the Account holder login credentials
  3. The game will automatically find and link to the spirometer
  4. The game will first ask the Player to choose a character – Teddy Bear, Bunny, or Cat
  5. Once logged in, players will find themselves in the hallway of the house. On the bottom right side, the top hat shows the rewards that have been won in each category. The Pause button on the left bottom may also be used.
  6. There are 5 rooms in the house, and each room has a different game or series of games. There are opportunities to find 4 sections of a treasure map by clicking various hiding places on the various games. Additional play such as soccer, basketball, fogging a mirror and playing the flute, are not specific to gathering spirometry data but keep the player engaged.
  7. Rewards are won at the end of the day when Sparky™ goes to sleep after completion of all games.
  8. Each time the spirometer is needed, the child inhales as deeply as possible and/or blows out forcefully and continues to blow until the action they want to complete is done.
  9. IF THEY ARE INHALING – Ask them to sit straight up. Blow out all the air in their lungs until they can’t blow anymore and place their mouth over the opening of the mouthpiece of the spirometer. Take in as much of the drink as they can in one suck. If they take little sips, then SparkyTM can’t properly drink.
  10. IF THEY ARE EXHALING – Ask them to sit up straight. Inhale as much as they can until they can’t suck in any more air and place their mouth over the opening of the spirometer mouthpiece. Blow out as hard and as long as they can in one blow until the meal is cold and SparkyTM eats it.
  11. INHALE AND IMMEDIATELY EXHALE (The Garden Game) – Ask them to sit up straight blow out all the air in their lungs until they can’t blow out anymore. Place their mouth over the spirometer and suck in all the air they can until the second set (2 bars) of progress bars appear and blow out as forcefully and for as long as they can until they see the fire disappear.
  12. Each game provides visual feedback by showing a progress bar. When spirometry is correctly completed, the flag on the progress bar turns green and the child continues (inhale/exhale) until the action they want to complete is done. The Return or Back buttons take them back to the previous screen. The Home button takes them back to the hallway.
  13. The 5 rooms in the game are:
  14. Kitchen – This is the practice room where the child is oriented to game play. It includes a milkshake and a pizza game.
  15. Playroom – Train game where the child drinks (inhale as deeply as possible) or blows on a hot item (exhales forcefully and for as long as they can) before eating it
  16. Bathroom – Bathing and blow-drying game (exhale forcefully and for as long as they can) and they can also fog and sketch on a mirror (for fun)
  17. Garden –The fire hose game where the child sucks water up from a pool (inhale as deeply as possible) and immediately blows out fires (exhales forcefully and for as long as they can) until the fires disappear . They can also play soccer (for fun). Once completed, a treasure box appears when the child clicks on the Back icon to return to the hall. This is the most difficult Spirometry game and is usually the last room to play before going to the bedroom.
  18. Bedroom – The bedroom is the last room and does not open until all other games have been played. The child can play basketball or blow on a flute (for fun). When they click on the bed, SparkyTM goes to sleep and the day is over. SparkyTM dreams and stars will appear in the clouds to show whether the games were successfully completed. The treasure chest appears with the rewards for the day.
  19. When the game brings the player back to the hall, they can click on the top hat to see the rewards and change Sparky’s wardrobe for the next day.
  20. If the player has passed all of the games, the game will level up for the next play. If not, then the player remains on the same level
